VFX Supervisor

Vancouver, BC, Canada
Full Time
Senior Manager/Supervisor

At Stellar, we aim to build a studio where artists collaborate to bring their best work to the screens, big and small. We face the inevitable ups and downs of production as a truly supportive and connected team, prioritizing open communication over anyone working in isolation. We value honesty, creativity, and looking out for one another.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for an exceptional VFX Supervisor to provide creative leadershipon a premium streaming series for Marvel Animation. Shot with cinematic ambition and a distinctive visual identity, the series demands a unified, uncompromising look across every frame from asset build through final delivery. This is not a background role.

You will serve as the creative and technical authority for the series' visual execution. While the title is VFX Supervisor, this role is fundamentally about ownership of the look, cinematic lighting, tonal consistency, mood, and visual cohesion across all episodes.

The right candidate brings the technical fluency of a seasoned VFX Supervisor and the creative vision of a cinematographer. You will partner with our internal Production Designer and Unit Director, serving as the key creative liaison with client side to ensure the series looks and feels like a single, authored work.

Who You Are

You have spent your career making images look extraordinary on features, episodics, or both. You know what a cinematically dark, premium action drama looks and feels like, and you have the language, relationships, and technical toolkit to build that look from the ground up and protect it through every stage of production.

You are equally comfortable in a creative conversation with a director as you are deep-diving in a color pipeline with a senior TD. You don't just react to what's in front of you; you anticipate, document, and communicate proactively.

In this role, success looks like:

Creative Direction & Execution:

  • Serve as the visual continuity authority across all episodes and production blocks, ensuring no departure from the established look goes unaddressed.
  • Provide the Line Producer with creative and technical context to support informed decision-making on cost, schedule, and creative trade-offs.
  • Anticipate creative and technical challenges early, equipping the Line Producer with the information needed to make timely, informed choices.
  • Partner closely with the internal Production Designer to support the Unit Director in executing creative direction from the client side to unify every visual layer of the series.
  • Join Unit Director in daily review sessions with creative teams
  • Ensure strong composition, artistic timing, and cinematic filmmaking principles are applied to every shot.

Technical Leadership & R&D:

  • Partner closely with the CG Supervisor to proactively identify and solve technical issues before they cause production bottlenecks.
  • Act as a bridge between the creative vision and the technical execution, translating the client’s creative intent into actionable Development Initiatives.
  • Bring a pipeline-informed perspective to workflow and review processes, enabling production to work efficiently without sacrificing quality.

Team Leadership & Mentorship:

  • Train, mentor, and support the growth of the Team
  • Lead by example, providing actionable suggestions and recommendations on techniques and elements used in the show to elevate the crew's final output.

The Requirements

Must-Haves:

  • 10+ years of experience as a VFX Supervisor, CG Supervisor, or equivalent senior visual role on high-end feature or premium episodic productions.
  • Demonstrated experience across the full production spectrum from look development and pre-production through final delivery.
  • Strong working knowledge of color science, lighting, compositing, and image pipeline design.
  • Experience in prestige drama, high-end streaming, or feature-length work where visual quality was a primary mandate.
  • Proven ability to lead and align multi-department creative conversations at a senior level.
  • Background working with or at top-tier studios, VFX houses, or animation facilities is a strong asset.
